THERE IS A LIGHT THAT NEVER GOES OUT
SYNOPSIS :: It’s almost Christmas, and what better way to spend it with him.
NOTE :: as promised, i present a grahamfield fic. read the first part :))
TYPE :: fluff / light angst
Tumblr media
Max turned on the lights in her dorm while Warren followed her behind. “I’m sorry for the mess. I wasn’t sure if I should leave for the holidays or not, so the boxes Dina lent me were lying around.”
“It’s okay.” His words were breathy from laughter “You should have seen my room when it’s finals. It looks like I had murder investigation goin’ on.”
“I remembered.” She joined in the laughing fit, remembering the time she brought him some food since she found he had been skipping his meals.
“At least yours looks messily beautiful!” He exclaims, looking around the room in amazement. “Your room looks straight up from a Ghibli film.” Although, the thing that made it stand out was the wall full of photographs.
Max was too preoccupied with cleaning out some used papers on the ground to make her room look more presentable. Yet she stopped when she caught Warren examining her Photo Memorial Wall. “This is amazing…”
She smiled from his compliment, even if it didn’t reach her eyes she was flattered. She knows he’s just making small talk and avoiding the elephant in the room, she knows him too well. “Do you, do you have any questions about the other timeline?”
Warren turned his body to face her, “If it’s alright with you, I have but let’s talk about it at breakfast. For now, I want you to have some rest.”
“Alright. Whatever you say, Doctor.” He grinned at the nickname.
“This feels like we’re kids again, even if we never met as children. I’ve never been into a sleepover before, this feels nice.”
“I hope we did. It would have been fun creating all sorts of trouble with you.” They both sat down at the edge of her bed. “Can you stay for the night? I’m sorry, I know I just told you it was a couple of minutes.”
“Hey, it’s okay. I’d sleep on the couch. Then, we’ll go to some diner first thing in the morning. Sounds good?” She warmly smiled at him and nodded.
“Thanks, Warren. I’ll find a way to repay you.”
He immediately shook his head. “You don’t have to, just by being one of my closest friends is enough. Just keep being you, Max, that’s enough for me.”
The conversation ended when they both set the glass down by the sink and Warren sat at the couch. “Are you sure you’re okay with sleeping on the couch?”
“Yep! Believe me, I can’t count the times I slept on my gaming chair all night. So this couch is actually an upgrade.” His reassurance gave her a peace of mind. But she still grabbed some comforters and a blanket to make the couch at least comfortable to sleep in. “We’ll talk tomorrow, okay?”
“Mhm, I’m gonna get that pancake sausage combo.”
“Oh, ho! I’m gonna get that pancake sausage combo.”
With saying that in unison they both laugh at themselves until it dies down and the both of them had settled on their respective beds. Max turned to face Warren across the room, while he did the same. Even with the lights turned off, the moon’s light shining from the window is perfectly illuminating his pale face that she couldn’t help but smile in relief to know she wasn’t alone with her thoughts any more. “Good night, Warren.”
“Sleep well, Max.”
For the first time, she slept without nightmares where she wakes up soaked in her own sweat while she tries to breathe normally and avoid a panic attack. This time she was awakened by the sweet and citrusy smell of maple syrup suddenly making her eyes flutter, with the sun rays making its way past her curtains she couldn’t help but open up her eyes. Across from her is an empty couch with the comforters and a blanket neatly folded to the side. The said person who is missing is currently singing along a tune in a small chest of drawers by the foot of her bed.
“Are you awake? I couldn’t wake you up earlier, so I decided to order some take-out.” He somehow managed to tell she was wide awake by just the difference of her breathing.
“Shit, I must have been out as light.”
“You are, no matter how many times I rang your alarm clock right next to you, you just won’t get up. A sleeping beauty, through and through.”
“Oh, please. There’s no way I was sleeping beautifully.” She sat up on the bed and threw a small pillow to his face. The good thing is that he was able to catch it.
Though he was trying to hide it, the corners of his mouth were twitching upwards. He couldn't help but laugh out loud from her annoyed face. After preparing their breakfast, Max was done fixing her bed and joined Warren by the couch. “Here, your pancake-sausage combo!”
“Mhm, that’s why it smelled so good here.” She salivated from the meal in her hands, but she made sure that the maple syrup was evenly spread from each pancake. While Warren… well, he made sure that the sausages got maple syrup as well. “Dude, what the fuck?”
“What?” His words were distorted since he was holding the fork with his teeth as he spread a large amount of syrup over his food.
“You’re disgusting!” Max blurted out. “What kind of psycho puts syrup with sausages?”
He took the fork and knife and started eating his pancakes, the enjoyment in his face was obvious. That he is that kind of psycho who will put maple syrup with anything as if it was ketchup.
“Eat your fill! Or I’ll take those lovely pancakes!” Warren said between mouthfuls. It prompted Max to eat as well, considering Warren is not typical to joke around food. He’s dead serious about eating others food if they don't want it.
After finishing your meals, he was the one who offered to clean it up. “I’ll be right back.” Once the door was shut, Max collapsed back to her bed. Every morning she has to remind herself that she did the right thing, but after she revealed everything to Warren. Her self-doubt and insecurity seems to dissolve as she remembers his words last night.
Warren’s words have no doubt behind them as well as his eyes that hold sincerity while he holds her close by the light house. He was giving her reassurance that she didn’t ask for, she wasn’t even sure if she deserves it. She sighed deeply, while trying to calm herself down she walked over to the foot of her bed and turned on her stereo.
The knock on her door pulled her back to reality, “Hey, since we didn’t get to that drive-in… want to go tonight?” Max smiled back at his suggestion and nodded her head.
“Fan of The Smiths, huh?” He asked, peering over to her shoulder to see her CD collection. “Oh, shit! Is that The Dark Side of the Moon?!”
“God, you’re the most geekest out of the geeks I’ve met.” She found amusement in his giddiness. “If you want I can lend you some CDs to play it on your car’s stereo.”
“Yes, please! You’re okay with me borrowing it?”
“Of course, I wouldn’t have offered if I was against it. Well, if you did ask me I’m afraid I’d still let them borrow it.”
“I know, that’s why I asked. Max, I know it’s rich coming from me but you can always deny us of things that are precious to you. You don’t have to be a…”
“A pushover?” She abruptly finished his sentence for him.
“Yeah, that.” He fidgeted his fingers. “But I’m not saying that you are one!”
She was laughing so hard that she momentarily closed her eyes from how much laughter he could pull out of her. “Relax. I didn’t take any offense from it.”
“Ugh, you’re the worst.” He exhaled through his nose while he covered his face with his hands.
“Hey, Warren… you still had a few questions about what happened, right?” Warren gulped, it was obvious that this topic would be brought once again sooner or later, he just didn’t expect she was the one who'd bring it up first. They both sat at her bed, while Max held her teddy bear.
“Yeah, about that, I think you explained some of it pretty well. I’m more curious about what happened with us from that different timeline.” He can see the gears in her head processing his words just from her expression, a blush that slowly appeared in her cheeks.
“Oh, yeah. Just like today, we got closer within that week. You saved me a bunch of times from Nathan, heck, you even beat him up!” Warren’s eyes almost sparkled and his jaw dropped, unable to believe the story.
“No way! I beat up that asshole?!”
“You did, but once it was over you regretted it. You were afraid that somehow you ended like him. But you’re not like him, I know you’re not that kind of person to use your powers to abuse others.”
“Ha… I still can’t believe it. Shit, what other things happened?”
“I saved Kate from committing suicide… because of Victoria. But there was something more sinister that happened to Kate, as we know today, she was a victim of…”
“Mark.” Max slightly flinched at the mention of his name. “I can’t believe the school let someone like him inside!”
“Uhm, aside from Mister Jefferson getting arrested as well as Nathan. In the alternate, Nathan was killed by him, while Madsen was the one who shot Mark in the head. Though, at least in this current timeline, I prevented Victoria from being in the Dark Room…” She bit her lip remembering her own time in that disgusting place. She turned her head away from Warren, as she was so absorbed in fixing things in the current time that she disregarded her own fears and mental health. “I, I was also there, even if it didn’t happen technically, I still feel it. Everything, everyone, what happened during that week for them it’s not real but it is for me! Even if it was erased, I… I wish I had forgotten everything that would’ve been much more bearable than this.”
Max couldn’t feel the disgust and contempt from her own self. “I wish I could take away your pain…” He gently placed his hand on top of hers as his gaze held a warm intensity that whispered of deep affection. “But I’m so proud of you for being strong.”
She could feel her eyes sting again as ripples of tears flow to her cheeks. “I can’t believe I’ve cried twice in your arms today.” Max let herself open up and nuzzle her head by his shoulders, trying to hide her face as much as possible. “Look, your shirt is wet again!”
He managed to let out a quiet laugh before placing his arms around her, gently gliding his palms to her head to brush her hair. Though his action made her embrace him tighter as tears continue to well up in her eyes. For once, Max was able to cry herself to sleep with someone holding her close, to dry her tears with their hands, and to tuck her in.
“I really wish I also have some superpower to help you with what you’re feeling, Max.” He whispered, gently laying her on the bed.
“Warren…” Max softly called out to him, her arms reaching to be wrapped in his neck.
“Yeah?” They were both silent for a moment while her lips brushed against his, she kissed him with a slow tenderness that stopped the world around them like she used her powers once again. She was almost convinced that it was until his hand touched her cheek, his thumb softly caressing her as a small act of affection.
“I want you to know that it’s technically my second time kissing you.” She whispered after they parted. The blush that spread Warren’s cheeks flared more after her statement.
“So, you mean? We, We kissed? Before? Like in the alternate timeline.” Overwhelmed by emotion, his voice cracked as his heart beat only quickened when she nodded.
“I was also the one who initiated the kiss back then because I was afraid that I won’t be able to at least tell you my feelings since I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to come back.”
“But you did, you came back. That’s why if you’d let me, I want to share your burden and pain that you’ve been carrying for so long, and ease you so that you’d be able to have a sense of relief even if it’s just for a moment. In this universe, let us be the one to take care of you.” This time his voice held a strong determination as he professed his love that he once thought was unrequited. Hugging her with warmth as she reciprocated his embrace. Their breathing slowed as a sense of safety and belonging washed over them.
“Just being with you was enough for me, I was able to properly grieve people I’ve lost and unbottle the feeling I’ve been trying to hide that I can let it go without blaming myself…” She paused, her voice was shaky from overwhelming emotions that engulfed her. “I, I want you to know that…”
“I do, I love you so much, Maxine.” He placed a butterfly kiss right in her temple and held her closer. “You don’t have to be alone and in the dark anymore.” He beams at her, his brightness and warmth made her feel secure in his arms. Her sun, her lighthouse that leads her out of the dark.

My opinion on the whole other reality stuff in lis double exposure is that they kinda ran out of Ideas and just decided to take stuff from the comics.
Of course I'm exited for the game and everything we've seen so far looks pretty promising. But to be honest, I myself wouldn't buy the game right now because I don't want to spend my money on something which key element is reality jumping while I literaly just read something simuilar a few weeks ago, while I could wait sometime and it would be half the price.
Like, she already (kinda) had these powers before.
Whats your opinion on that?

WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN
SYNOPSIS :: It is now December, autumn has ended everything. Now, Max is at her dorm alone, her friends headed back to their hometown and their homes, except for one who’s been living on the bay his entire life.
NOTE :: as promised, i present a grahamfield fic (i'm back) this has a second part
TYPE :: fluff / angst
Tumblr media
It was almost the middle of the night, and there were ten missed calls from her mother. But she had already told them, she’d be spending her holiday break here, in Arcadia Bay. She’d rather be here in the dark than sit in a family party hiding in her old bedroom.
The brightness of her laptop leaves her eyes stinging since she has been sitting there for hours, looking at the old photos she managed to salvage. She couldn’t handle touching that box, she already saw the contents of it and vowed not to ever seek it again. She’d hide it under her bed like how she’ll hide her memories of that week in October when she went on a last adventure with her best friend, which will be forever hidden deep inside of her memory. She won’t speak of it but she’ll remember it every time she sleeps with the box under her bed.
The soft music that she was playing from the speakers had been interrupted from the ringing of her phone, she saw the caller ID and she thought about ignoring it. But her hands were faster than what she was thinking, and then a voice called out.
“Max?” Even though he wasn’t in front of her, she felt the warmth of his presence from just his voice.
“Hey, Warren. What’s up?” She said quietly, making her way to her bed as she finally felt exhaustion in her body. She collapsed right away with her hand holding the phone close to her ear.
“I was just checking in. Have you packed yet?” Right, he doesn’t know Max will be here in the dormitories until the end of the holidays.
“I, not yet.” She lied, although she wanted to tell the truth she physically couldn’t. Because she knows if he finds out, he’ll be right in front of her dorm room to keep her company. She couldn’t do that to him and burden him. He had already done so much, the fact that he was calling her was enough.
“Then, do you want to keep talking instead?” He offers while the music from his background - probably from the party his family threw - starts to quiet down as if he moved to a quiet room in his house.
“Yes, please.” Max replied, her head lays softly on her pillow while she wraps her arm on her bolster. “Wait, I’m not disturbing you, right?”
“Nope, don’t worry. I’m all free.” He quickly reassured her. “If you got bored on your way home to Seattle, just remember you have my flash drive. Pop it in your laptop, you could even download files there if you want.”
“Thanks, Warren. I, I really appreciate what you've been doing for me for the last two months. I wouldn’t have survived here without you.” Max confessed, as she remembered the notes she jotted down in her journal when she first met him. Although, that journal was long gone since she already burned it.
“Hey, it’s alright. I told you, I’m like your personal super-hero. I’ll give you all my notes from Miss Grant’s class.” He laughs before he continues, “God, I remember that one time you fell asleep during her class, your face had red marks from sleeping on your arms.”
“Stop! I remembered that time! The moment I woke up she was standing in front of my table while she made me answer whatever was on the whiteboard, and luckily I was able to answer it.”
“All thanks to me.” He said, but she can see his smug forming from his face.
“Yeah, yeah, it was thanks to you she gave me a ‘hmph’ for getting the right answer.” Max laughed lightly, although it didn’t bring a smile on her face she felt the warmness inside her heart to grow.
“There’s the Max I know! It’s been so long since I heard your laugh, though it’s not a hearty laugh. I’ll still take it that I made you laugh after a while!”
She furrowed her brows before talking, “What are you talking about? I have always been the same.”
“I know, but ever since… uhm, Chloe. You really changed. But, we understand. It’s completely okay, I was just, I mean, we were just worried.” Warren felt the conversation already turned sour when he mentioned it. He shouldn’t have mentioned it, is what he thought. “I’m sorry.”
Max turned quiet, the memories flooding in her system that made her hug the pillow tighter. The laughter of Chloe in her room while she was dancing, as well in the swimming pool, or that time in the diner when they tried her powers. It was too much but they were sweet memories that Max didn’t want to let go. Until memories she wanted to forget slipped out and as always her memories of Chloe will always be tied with the brewing storm mixing with the deafening gunshot along while the blood stains the squared tiles of the bathroom. She has been shutting out the memories she made with Chloe, nothing good comes out with thinking about something that never happened. It was enough to make her sit up, and it was only then she started taking deep breaths as she sweats profusely, while tears welled up in her eyes.
“Max? Max?! Are you okay?” She didn’t answer. “Just keep taking deep breaths, do it with me. Inhale.” He paused. “Exhale.” Max followed his instructions and copied Warren’s breathing, although her chest hurts it starts to ease as she breathes.
“I’m sorry I scared you.” Max says breathlessly, her chest heaving. She immediately thought it’s for the better if he stays away, nothing good comes out from her situation. Max’s waiting for someone who’s already gone. Just like how Chloe waits for Rachel.
“No! I should be the one saying sorry! It was insensitive of me, I shouldn’t have… mentioned it.” He took a big sigh, while his expression was dejected and placed his head on his hand. “I’m sorry, Max.”
His voice was enough to keep her eyes watery. “I, I really want to go to that drive-in right now.” She suddenly says silently, wishing in every star that he’s right beside her. She’d rather be with him, and although it sounds selfish, Warren was the only person she was comfortable enough with.
“We can.” He immediately says. “I could pick you up and we could drive around to look for one.” He quickly shoots out as Max can hear him get up from his seat and a jingle of keys is heard.
“No, Warren! I’m only kidding. It’s okay, don’t waste your time.”
“It’s not a waste of time if it’s you, Maxine.” It was her first time hearing him not use her nickname. “So, get a thick jacket and wear something comfortable. I’ll be outside of the dorms.”
It was too late, she can hear his parents asking him where he’s going but he slams the door shut and can promptly hear his parents shout before the revving of the car was picked up by the mic.
“Just stay on the phone, I miss talking to you. Please.”
Max smiles, a true smile, the one she didn’t wear for such a time. She couldn’t even believe she could smile like that again. But hearing someone say they miss her was what she hadn’t heard for some time.
“Don’t worry, I will.” She put the phone on speaker mode before going to her closet and grabbing a navy fleece jacket and putting it on. She grabbed her converse and before tying the laces, Warren spoke.
“Hey, do you want to crash the Christmas party the Vortex will throw next Tuesday?” She chuckled, as they already crashed the Vortex’s Halloween party before, although that time she left early, leaving Warren to get drunk at that party.
“That’d be fun. I, I still feel bad about the last time.”
“Oh, come on. Don’t worry about it, I still had a blast… but you should’ve told me you went home, I could have driven you back.” He wasn’t even worried about it in the beginning, the moment he noticed she was gone, he searched the whole place. Only stopping when he received Max’s text saying that she had gone back to the dorms, before sulking and getting drunk at the party. He was pretty sure he threw a full to the brim red solo cup at Victoria.
From the background, Max can hear other vehicles honking, “I’m close to the school, are you ready?”
“Yeah, I’ll be waiting.” Max ties her hair in a short ponytail since she’s been growing her hair for a while, before closing her dorm room and rushing towards the staircase.
When she got out of the dormitories, she could faintly hear a car engine outside and saw Warren leaning against his car. He was wearing his usual long sleeves printed shirts but with a black parka on top of it.
“Hey, Warren.” His stoic face that was on his phone turned soft, despite the softness of his smile his eyes crinkled from the excitement the moment he saw her.
“You’re beautiful with your new hairstyle.” She felt herself return his kind smile as she fixed her bangs and tucked it behind her ear. “Are you gonna grow it?” He asks, opening the passenger door for her.
She walked towards him and sat in the seat, “Yeah, do you think it’ll look good?”
Anything looks good on you, Max. Are you kidding? You’d rock any hairstyles.” She laughed at his silliness before he headed back to the driver seat. “I’m serious though, you can be bald headed and still look cool!”
“Oh, man, now, you’re just mocking me!” Max exclaimed, giving him soft punches.
“Alright, alright, now, put on your seatbelt and let the quest for finding a drive-in begin.” He turns on the car and starts to hit the gas, he lets the window open and let the chill breeze of the wind inside the car. “I’m sure some are open since it’s nearing Christmas.”
That’s what he said in the last thirty minutes but everywhere else is closed, while some already ended. “I’m sorry, I thought we’d be able to watch at least a rom-com or something.”
“It’s alright, we can drive around and enjoy the view.” Warren got quiet, his eyes focused on the road while thinking about something about what she said. “Something wrong?”
“Oh! I know a view! Been living here since before, I know the best view in this town!” He exclaims, before turning around the car and blasting his song on the stereo.
“Alright, I trust you.” They sat quietly in the comfortable silence they shared, the only thing playing was his car’s stereo. “What’s this song?”
“Hm? Oh, I don’t really know the title. I just found the jam on a random site and burned it on a CD. I just called it ‘I don’t wanna talk about anything’, if you like my mix you can have that CD.” He offers, as his hand steers the wheel driving away from the town.
“It’s fine, dude. I’ll just borrow it from time to time.” She rests her head against the seat, as she remembers the roads they were taking. “Are you taking me to the lighthouse?”
“Oh, come on! I thought you’d never been here before.” He sighs, then a series of flashbacks and pictures flashes before her eyes. The storm with Chloe. She groans and presses a hand against her temple as it starts to throb, luckily she was able to brush it off before Warren noticed it.
“Yeah, I’ve never been here before.”
He pulls up and parks his car to the side of the road. “Well, I just wanted to show you the view here at night. Though, you’d have to walk for a while to reach it.”
Max nods and the both of them hops out of the car. This was her first time again being back here, remembering how bad the storm was, everything was horrible. She would be feeling sick if not for his hands holding hers. She wants to back out so much, but something tells her to follow his lead.
“Have,” She paused for a moment before taking a deep breath. “Have you been here before?”
“A dozen times! I usually go here during the night. I promise it looks absolutely beautiful, which is why you have to close your eyes.” Max can tell that they’re close to the lighthouse given that she’d been here… well, in another timeline.
“Ok, but if I trip I’m taking you down with me.” He laughs, but nods anyway.
“I promise, I’ll do my best to try to lead you safely. Emphasis on the word try.” He went behind her and took out his handkerchief. “Is this okay?”
Max smiles and nods, “Mhm. Lead me away, Doctor Graham.” Warren obliged and gently placed the handkerchief on her eyes, tying it behind her back. Max’s whole world has gone black, she was only able to walk because of his guiding hands. “Don’t let me go.” She quietly mutters.
“Don’t worry, I won’t ever do that.” He answers, though she was expecting he wouldn’t hear it but nonetheless, it made her smile. He goes behind her and gently places his hands on her elbows. “Do you trust me?”
Max gets reminded of that day in the parking lot, that time where she was supposed to tell Warren about her situation, her powers, regardless of his beliefs in science and wormholes and some shit. “Always, Warren. I’ll always trust you.”
The walk towards the lighthouse was fast, because the next thing she knew was that they stopped walking and Warren spoke. “Okay, I’ll take off the blindfold.”
It took a while for Max to regain her vision, but the moment it was clear she saw the beauty of the moon in the distance. How its light reflects against the sea that it made it look like the moon is bleeding out to the ocean. Max was silent. It’s not her first time here, she could recount those days when she was here during the sunset, the storm. With Chloe. And yet the view from up here never ceases to amaze her, it is her first time seeing the view at night.
“You like it?” Max snapped from her thoughts, she didn’t say anything but she nodded as a reply. “There’s a bench right here.”
He softly took her hand that he was holding earlier and brought her almost to the edge of the cliff where a bench was placed. The two sat in silence, when Warren was about to let go of her hand, Max only gripped it tighter. “I thought you’d never let me go?”
“Oh! Yeah, I just thought…” His words were scrambled in his head as the blush settling in his cheeks spread through his nose and the tip of his ears. With courage he intertwined their fingers and held it tighter. “I, Max, have you been here before?”
Her heart skipped a beat. “No, not that I remember. Maybe, since I also grew up here.”
“Right…it’s just even blindfolded, you know which path to step on without worry. Looks like you’ve been here for quite a lot.”
Once again, her lips were pinched together in a hard line to prevent herself from revealing something no one should know. Even if she did, no one would believe her. But, Warren is just not anyone. Back then, when she revealed her powers he immediately trusted and believed her. No matter how much Warren trusts logic and Science over something like fantasy and superpowers.
“Warren, about Chloe…” Max slowly clamped her hand over her mouth, not sure what to even confess regarding this matter. Her mind fights between finally revealing the truth and freeing herself from being the only who carries those haunted memories within that week.
The hand that was holding her hand moved towards her back, running circles to provide comfort. Warren didn’t say a thing, not a word, but he moved closer to make her feel his warmth from the cold breeze the wind had picked up.
“The day Chloe died, before that, I managed to save her from it due to my power that created a different timeline.” The recurring memories she had, started to overflow like a box she had been trying to lock up in the back of her mind. “A power that can rewind time and change the course of destiny from just one choice. I might have abused it, but because of my powers I had saved not just Chloe but Kate! Until the choices I made led me to create a storm, a fucking E6 tornado to ruin this town! It was all because of my selfishness that led me there.” Recounting the storm that she had made, her lips started to quiver while her eyes started to look glassy from the tears she had been trying hard not to shed. Until now, she could picture the tornado from the lighthouse that she’d have to constantly blink her eyes and convince herself that it was already gone.
“Max, calm down. I’m here, deep breaths.” Warren caught a stray of her hair from her face and tucked it gracefully behind her ear. She followed his instructions, his comforting words made her continue the story no matter how crazy it sounds. Although he finds it hard to believe, hearing Max talk about this topic makes him believe it as a fact.
“I chose Arcadia, Warren… just like Chloe wanted. To undo all the things and make the storm disappear, I have to go back to the time where I first used my powers and erase a timeline where I saved Chloe back in the bathroom. But doing so, I lost her in the process, my selfishness, I should have been careful, I…” Her voice trails off as she tries to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill had already covered her warm cheeks, which made Warren’s hands wipe it away.
“Whatever happened during October, I know that none of it, absolutely, none of it is your fault. Max, different timelines or multiverses it was not your fault.” Her eyes were large and rimmed with tears which reflected the stars in the sky focused on his brown ones.
For the longest time, she often cried about this alone. Unable to find comfort from a person who completely understands the reason behind her tears. But now, her entire being was cradled by the boy who loves her the most. Burying her head to his chest and once she started talking it gave her the confidence to explain everything to him. Her words were somber, yet she continues because this might be the only time she can get this feeling out. “Warren, it’s okay if you don’t believe me-”
He immediately cut her off. “I trust you, Max. Just as much as how you trusted me to tell this.” His words only made her hug him tighter.
She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to force the tears from their edges so she could be done with them but Warren noticed it. “How can you believe me, Warren? I don’t have any proof, or just anything! Everyone would not believe me because it never happened!”
“You’re right, it might have never happened. But, Max, you’re the living proof that it did. You don’t need evidence or proof, because those memories that you had are enough to make me believe you.” He offers a kind smile while he fishes something out of his pockets. “Your eyes might irritate if you do that. Here.” She reached for his white handkerchief and softly dried her tears and wiped it away.
Max sought out the comfort she had been looking for in him, holding on close to him. “Warren, thank you.”
Instead of saying a reply, his hand reached out to her head, softly caressing her hair. They stayed that way for a few minutes before Warren’s watch beep silently. “It’s midnight… I should get you home or you’d get a cold out here.
She nodded to his statement, she can feel the wind gets colder every passing minute. On their way back to his car, not once did Warren let go of her hand. “I turned on the heater, do you still feel cold?” She shook her head back.
“You know, in the other timeline when I revealed my powers to you, you believed me in an instant as well.” Max rubbed her shoulders, creating friction to warm herself up.
He smiled at her comment. “Defying destiny and creating new timelines is something you often do, Super Max.” He paused, careful with his next words. “Do you… still have those powers?”
After rewinding back, Max never really did use it anymore. And she never wanted to try it again. “I don’t think so.” He nodded his head from her answer.
The whole trip back to the town was comfortably quiet. Warren didn’t want to ask any more questions, afraid that it’ll make her uncomfortable. While Max was waiting for his questions but she didn’t want to press him any further considering how much she said can take a lot to process.
After almost twenty minutes, both of them arrived at the school’s dormitories. “I appreciate that you told me your secret, and you don’t have to worry. My mouth,” He held his pointer and thumb finger by his mouth and closed it like a zipper. “Is sealed.”
She chuckled at his childish act, but she took his word. It was already so late at night, and she didn’t want to be alone with her thoughts which is why she took a chance. “Warren, can you stay for a few more minutes with me?”
His mouth agape, before he shut it and smiled that was filled with quiet contentment as he nodded. “Sure.”
